the day just flew by!

Happy Youth Day!

I don't know how today passed by so quickly! Did my laundry in the morning then worked on my dissertation. Happy that I got my articles sorted and started on my results section. Just need to confirm how I should present my results - if by study design or outcomes. Asked A for opinion and he said usually is the former..and cos he's in Liverpool, he will get back to me again tmr! Hah..I also dropped my supervisor an email but I doubt she'll reply that fast! Anyway, my Msian classmate msged me to ask how long I waited to get the new CAS no. for the extension of visa process and chatted with her abt dissertation. Seems that she and the other Msian classmate have not met their supervisors and still reading articles to make sense of them before meeting. But later on realised they had sent the first few parts to their supervisors already...so not tt lagged as I thought they were. End of this mth also Hari Raya Puasa lor..so I'm sure they will wanna get most of the dissertation done though it's called draft. All along I thought we had to submit almost the final of the dissertation as draft end of this month..then now I think maybe they meant whatever we have by then to check that we're on the right track. But of course, I still hope to finish it by this month then can relax a bit before my supervisor gets back to me and then complete my final one, hopefully before the official submission date.

Looking at how fast the days go by, I'm just praying hard to be able to focus (I've now kinda limited my chatting and net surfing to mornings when I wake up to after I read the papers online and in the evenings)..I've resumed watching local (SG) shows on my laptop after dinner till bedtime too...if needed, might cut that down too. Shall see how things go. Amidst all this, I also got to remember to confirm my departure date and ask HR about booking it. I think after I'm more or less done with my dissertation, I'll probably write out a list of things to do before I leave. And I guess I might just travel nearby when I'm done with my draft dissertation else it might be too last minute (and ex) to book flights. Yday PF asked if I wanted to go London to watch Sound of Music end July lor..haha..told her KIV first cos I wasn't planning to go back. Neither could I see the show times..cos the crew are probably going to Singapore now! Aiyah..ya la..just checked. They will be in SG till 10th Aug leh..so maybe PF meant end July then can see the dates. Bham quite boring lor..not many performances happening now and Wicked is coming..the rest of the ballet performances or musicals all happening after I leave! But there're still places around Bham that I have been wanting to go so might explore them after I'm done! Haha!

Yday L took down my room curtains to wash..she also washed the ones downstairs and the chair covers. Like finally lor. Anyway she also told me she cleared out the freezer and cleaned it to so if my stuff are rearranged, just find them. Then I opened my self-declared drawer and saw that was her stuff..she had changed it to the middle drawer. And I don't know why but I had a bad feeling that something sure "missing" but didn't want to check yday while they were ard. Now I just went to check and saw that my frozen chicken stock was placed in her drawer and my 2 pieces of pork shoulders were missing (saw it being thawed in the fridge). I don't understand lor. I already put my stuff in one drawer to differentiate my stuff. The pork is not that ex la..but a bit pissed la cos she could've asked first. She must have thought she bought it for Poppy..cos tt day I saw her cook a pork chop. And yes, I eat like Poppy hor?

Eating my leftover rosti today. Probably will add an egg and maybe 1 chicken breast. Oh, yesterday I ate crispbread cos I wasn't v hungry at dinnertime..and I spread one with kaya and it turned out quite nice! Anyway was thinking what to bring for Wed's lunch and was deciding between sandwich or pasta salad. Then I probably will go and buy bread tmr to make sandwich cos I intend to put cream cheese for my pasta salad and I'm not sure if there's fridge facilities..so shall just make a sandwich. Probably gg to buy the olive ciabatta tmr!

buffet lunch in church

M finally sent my the Craft and Wool fair poster and saw it only this morning so spent time on it before going to church. See the difference!

Anyway, I bought this cute pin cushion from church. Proceeds go to the church fund..so cute and only 20p. At first I thought it was a potpurri cushion cos it smelled nice..

Here's the spread we had for today's buffet lunch! I used the wrong mode so turned out blur..haha..oops! Had wanted to take photos with the others but I was shy..haha..probably later on la. We had potato and leek pie, pasta bake, potato wedges, bacon quiche, salad, bread and some cold meats and cheese. Surprisingly I was the only one who took the cheese! I had a little Brie with my bread. The pasta bake was yums!

Came home only close to 3pm and L thought where I went..haha..oh, and I da bao-ed some pasta bake but probably will freeze it up cos I still have rosti from yesterday and I'm not hungry for dinner tonight. Had a nice time viewing J and S's wedding and honeymoon photos. Their wedding was in a vv nice church in Bournemouth..and honeymoon was in Bali. Haha..seems like the others loved the wood carvings sort of stuff.

Continued with my reading of articles and decided to add one more to my key articles. Anyway Wimbledon was on and Roger Federer lost. Heard from church ppl that Tour de France is going on too and towns like Sheffield and Chesterfield are all "shut down" cos of it!

Oh, today's weather was lovely. I managed with sleeveless top/dress and leggings though my hp app says it's about 19.6°C! It rained heavily (first time I hear thunder here) but it only lasted for 5-10 min!

No plans to go out next week, only attachment on Wed. Probably work on my dissertation and I got to start writing the results part!! Can't wait for my dissertation to be over..haha..hopefully can travel after it's more or less done before the official end of my programme!

Cream cheese finger cookies and rosti!

Not sure how today went passed so quickly..but I managed to finish my last database search and collated all the articles that I can find from my library database and sent some to my colleague to ask her help me find from our hosp's lib's database. And I also started reading some articles to see if I should to include them or what parts are useful. So probably on track. Hope to finish going through the articles by tomorrow and then Mon can start writing up results again.

Then I tried out the cream cheese finger cookies recipe to bring to church tomorrow. The recipe was v strange..it read 1-3/4 cup flour..so initially I read as 1 3/4 cup then I realised it might mean 3/4 to 1 cup..so I just put 1 cup and it was v rich..so added another 1/2 cup but it became a bit doughy so added a bit more cheese. Haha..so I can't tell u if the recipe works. I guess it works if u stick to 3/4 or 1 cup flour. HAHA! But they are still edible and kept some aside for L and C. I finished baking ard 3.25pm and when I went downstairs again for my dinner preparation around 5.40pm, only 2 were left! I commented to L and C who were watching tv "u all are fast! Did u all like it?" and L said they were nice! Then C told me he had 4 when he went down earlier in the afternoon but asked what it was...hah..heng I kept aside some for myself..haha..they assume whatever I put there is for them. Actually is for L, not C lor! But that's good, it means tried and tested, it's good. I personally find that it's not cheesy enough..probably cos I didn't use proper cream cheese..cos what I bought was called soft cheese..and it's light..Read online should get full fat ones..but nvm la. So here's how they look (mind you, I rolled each one by hand!!) Do they remind u of short churros? Haha

Anyway for dinner, just thought I'll cook something simple and use up my potatoes (v fast start to grow "eyes" already)..so I cooked rosti! I added a fried egg but didn't show here cos I fully fried the egg..hah..so don't look nice in photos..haha! Kept half of it for tomorrow's dinner.

Tomorrow will be chapel anniversary and lunch (and viewing of J and S's wedding and honeymoon photos!)! Bringing my cam to hopefully snap some nice photos for keepsake. Oh, and I just realised that 2 of my colleagues had their wedding today! So quiet..didn't even know when was their big day till some colleagues posted photos on our team's whatsapp grp. The groom is from my sister church back home and also colleague but no chance to work with him yet and the bride, also OT, used to work in my team. Both of them did their deg conversion tog in Glasgow last year...and lucky them managed to see the Northern Lights and self-drive to Isle of Skye!

Re-did search...10 hours!

I'm sooo tired from doing the journals search all over again. This time, I figured out how to do a proper search and with El's and Sil's help via whatsapp. Phew! At least now I feel more confident of my searches. Realised how silly I was to use the lib's database wrongly!! I felt like I wasted my time in April and May!! But at least I'm just playing it safe and see if there're better articles to include in my systematic review. I spent about 10 hours on it with 30min dinner break. I still have one more database to do tomorrow morning. After that will be collating and finding pdf for the new articles and making sure I note down how many I found, read and excluded. Grr...vv tedious. I was telling El and Sil that I should've just done an experimental or survey kind of study..at least I have data and it depends on how I want to analyse. Then Sil reminded me that systematic review is the top in the hierarchy thus it definitely has its challenges. I didn't even think of it that way when I decided to do a systematic review! I only wanted to save time to skip ethics and waiting for responses. But I'm still thankful for being able to do the search without any technical glitches or disturbances and of course El and Sil for helping me despite their busyness at work...and my mum for supporting me too. But anyway the articles are not very much different from my previous search..will be added some to read through to see if they are relevant and should be included.

A. was asking me about some English phrasing and he was saying he's at his Results bit already...v good for him..and he's aiming to publish his work cos of interesting findings..hah..anyway last I heard from him was that he needs to go back in mid Aug so rushing to finish his dissertation.

Tomorrow plan to bake but shall see how my search goes. Today totally didn't really talk to L and C and was in my room (with door closed) almost the whole day...only when L asked to borrow my charger this morning that I asked I thought she was using an iphone..then she said it's for C's hp cos he has some old stuff in there. She only returned when I asked back from her and she took it out from her handbag..so strange! Don't know what's going on but I don't care. Ate the sesame pretzel I bought from Germany with cream cheese today as my lunch/snack..yumsss..

Back to Uni

Back from meeting with my tutor. Basically updated her on the articles I found and some limitations or challenges I faced. Then asked if putting primary and secondary aims will be clearer. She said yes and also added the SG context is ok when I asked if it's ok if I reflect my findings into the SG context. To her, I'm on the right track. I dunno leh..cos v strange that most of my articles didn't have any statistical data..but she said it's ok..just comment on it. I hope I'm not reading too much into things and giving myself too much pressure. Conclusion is that I'll write out the results and discussion and send it to her..then see if need to meet her. She was saying she drives from Kenilworth so usually has to plan everything on one day..she doesn't come in every day. Just googled where that is..it's in Warwickshire and between Coventry and Leamington Spa..that's quite a distance! Shall focus and finish writing and critiquing on my articles...and told El and Sil that I'll need their help too!

Anyway I went in Uni earlier wanting to snap some photos but there was a Uni fair today so loads of teenagers ard carrying bags from different Unis..and I saw so many Uni's prospectus in the bin! Such a waste! It is probably the busiest and most happening day I've seen ever!! But anyway today's sky wasn't blue..it was gloomy today (forecast was cloudy) so didn't take any photos. It was quite nice to see some of my classmates who are on the Dip in Occ Medicine course ending tomorrow..and of course nice to see Anna, our administrator..returned the calculator too. Oh, and I borrowed past dissertations to have a look and ask tutor about the way the ex-student wrote too..she said it's probably not the best to follow that particular one. Hmm..oh well, so I'll just do according to what is required. She has to get back to me about risk of bias across studies too.

Went to Aldi to get some essentials and decided to buy a pack of long grain rice so I can cook porridge..cos I think quite wasted to use Basmati rice to cook porridge and likely will take longer to get that consistency too. Planning to cook fish porridge tonight...lazy to think of what else to cook. Had wanted to eat my frozen soup but want to eat fish. No plans on what to cook for the next few days. Oh ya, saw the butcher along Bearwood selling gammon hocks for 2 for £2..tempting but no place to keep. Realised that they may be cured that's why call gammon and not pork hocks..googled that most people roast or cook soups with it. Maybe can buy one of the days.

Today was cooling..tested temperature from my room window and decided to wear a jacket..end up I took it off on the bus and walked ard without it...it was chilly but comfortable. Tomorrow and the weekend will be rainy! So shall stay home! Anyway I've work to do and am motivated to finish ASAP! I'm quite looking forward to Sun! Oh, I'm asked to do a dedication for offertory. Anyway was deciding what to bake/bring and chanced upon a cream cheese finger biscuits recipe and thought it'll be interesting..and ingredients are quite simple..and the other day I bought soft cheese cos there's offer if bought in 2s. Bought ground almonds instead of pecans as suggested in recipe. Probably bake on Sat.

Botanical Gardens and shopping!!

It was a wonderful day out!! Weather was just right..sunny but cool winds too. I was in my tshirt and berms and went to Birmingham Botanical Gardens as planned! Here are some of the pics I took...spent about 2hrs there. Will upload the photos on photobucket.
The bandstand

The Glasshouse from afar

Poppy plant

Lillies

Butterfly eating fruit
Love this shot of the butterfly and flower!!

Went into town after that...and the flowers along the road and places have changed...

Went to get some cards posted and I used the self-service machine and I was v lucky cos I forgot to remove my debit card from the machine. The next person returned it to me..and heng I was there sticking my stamps and ensuring all is correct. Else I would be left with only £5 till the bank replaces my card! Made me realise I need to carry more £ around lor! Praise the Lord for honest people..haha!

Then went to Primark. It was v fun cos it was as if I was shopping with my mum!! All cos have whatsapp! Anyway I got 2 camisoles and a top for her..and got this top (on sale) and work pants for myself. Maybe this top can go with my kaki pants so I can wear it for the attachment. Now I see my that lacey top...looks a bit too formal especially if I wear with work pants! Haha..shall try on and see how.

Then went to find kids raincoat but Primark really doesn't have. Then went to Bullring and finally stepped foot into Selfridges Co. It's like a dept store that sells different branded brands..so Cath Kidston, Longchamp, The White Company etc. all are there. L loves to go there..almost every time she goes into town, she'll come back with Selfridges bag and/or Zara bag.

Earlier today, Sil asked abt my availability cos she finally can book leave and thought of coming over! It was such a pleasant surprise but we shall see! Oh, got HR's reply on hw many days of AL I have from last year too..v happy! But this year only 8 days. Oh, and my tutor finally replied me after I sent another email to ask and propose a time to meet tmr. It seems that maybe she didn't reply cos she was waiting for another meeting to confirm meeting time then she can plan her day. Anyway she suggested to meet at 2.30pm. Then my mum happen to be whatsapping me and told her..then she suggested for me to see other research and see how they present. Then it dawned upon me that I should loan out past dissertations again! The other time I loaned was in Feb when we had to do lit review.  So did up the loan form and sent to our admin person. Also wanna return calculator back...heard from O that he returned his since last year's module! Ooops..haha..so anyway probably go in uni an hour earlier to read the dissertations then meet tutor.

Oh, and I was checking my work email and saw my 2nd boss's email asking me if I'm ok to take over one of the projects cos the lead is coming UK for studies. Haha..so funny..like can say no. But replied her tactfully..cos I haven't been in that project before so it'll be better if someone from the team can also assist. Then had been chatting with Cel on whatsapp too and told her abt it..more things to add to the to-do list! And Cel also wanna suggest partner me for one of the services lor..wah biang..hah..sabo! Haha..but actually my 2nd boss already said have plans for me to cover that la. Looks like I got to write a list of things/services to cover and discuss deadlines with my 2nd boss when I'm back else I'll be like octopus trying to handle everything at one time!! Anyway Cel's boy also v cute..haha..thought he was much older..but ok la..2 years older than my niece.

Chicken curry

Did my laundry for my dark coloured clothes today. Cos I wanted to make sure my jeans was washed properly..after my Europe trip..haha..oh, today when I was packing my postcards to bring back SG, I found the collar pins I bought from Ireland..I thought I had packed them aside for my parents to bring back! Then looking at my postcards, I wanted to send one to LT and I whatsapped to ask if I had sent her one from London..and while waiting for her reply, I found a suitable one and turned to the back to start writing...only to realise I had already written halfway!! And it was addressed to her and her family! I couldn't believe myself! I guess I started writing and wanted to send together with her son's 1st bday card and forgot all about it!! So anyway I finished writing it and included in her bday card. Can't believe tt I am so absent minded..or maybe age IS catching up!

Skyped with my niece and aunt today. Today she wasn't in a v good mood as on Sun so when we asked her to do or say certain things, she just ignored us. Considering now's the 1st day of July (already!!), I'll probably get to see her and my family in 2 months' time! Kinda hoping to go back asap (miss my family, relatives, friends and homecooked food!!) but yet I'm really hoping to travel around before I go back! Given the short time, I'm kinda freaking out cos not long before I've to submit my research and I'm praying that I'm on the right track with my research or somehow scope it properly. Still waiting for tutor to reply me on the time to meet her on Thur. In the meantime I'm reading more on how to write up results and discussion according to the method proposed by the module lead. *praying and keeping the faith*

Cooked chicken curry today..used the vindaloo sauce and added my own curry powder. Considering I didn't add any other spices (I didn't buy), it turned out the best so far I cooked! Offered L and C too since C was not cooking tonight. They both loved it. Expected them to finish it cos I only cooked 5 thighs and 1 drumstick only..but think they know I keep my leftover for the next day so left a piece for me. Hahaha! I had mine with my baguette while they cooked their own rice. Saved 2 slices of baguette for my breakfast tmr with kaya!

Oh yes, I told M I'll be helping at the church's Craft and Wool fair on the last Sat of July. And offered to help in any way..and asked if I needed to teach/make some butterflies and got her reply today. They are thinking of doing a "have a go at a craft fair" and said my butterflies would be great for that. I suppose it means it's like a DIY booth/stall/table that people who come will learn to make butterflies. So replied asking if I need to prepare materials and how many to prepare for. The cost of these butterflies is v low..basically is to buy the "pipe cleaners" and cut out magazine papers. It'll be fun!

Heading to Botanic Garden tomorrow morning. Maybe I can get some inspiration or just relax in God's creations. Looking forward to it cos I haven't been there yet (cos there's admission charges so waited till flowering season..haha!).
